Jessie Fuentes

Dear neighbor,

The community’s lifeline depends on the livelihood of our business corridors. The businesses provide services, goods, and employ our neighbors. In an effort to support businesses and business owners, I will be hosting a Business Summit at the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center on June 13th where I will bring business professionals and stakeholders together to network. Educational workshops and resources will be offered on a range of topics including funding and investment opportunities, marketing and branding strategies, and financial literacy and management. Attendees will also gain valuable insights regarding city permits and licensing information.

If you are a business owner in the 26th Ward, you sign up here. If you are interested in providing resources to business owners, please email Brendan Alemán at brendan@the26thward.org.

In an effort to beautify and maintain the 26th Ward, we want to remind our neighbors the importance of keeping the parkway clean and orderly. In Chicago, residents and businesses are responsible for maintaining the parkway in front of their property or storefront. This includes tasks such as mowing the grass, keeping the area free of litter and debris, and ensuring that any vegetation, such as trees or shrubs, is properly trimmed under 12 inches and healthy. These efforts help us to take pride in the appearance and safety of the neighborhood, contribute to the overall well-being of the community, and comply with city regulations designed to keep public spaces attractive and functional.

Many homeowners have reached out to my office for support with their new tax assessments. Many are upset that their assessment went up 25-30% and they are left wondering if they could even afford to keep up with rising property taxes. Homeowners are able to appeal their most recent assessment tomorrow Wednesday, May 29th from 5:30-7pm at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse.

I’d like to close this week’s reflection by offering gratitude to all the young people, school leaders, community members, the Chicago Park District, violence prevention organizations and elected officials that participated in ALSO’s 29th Annual Peace Walk and festivities organized by my office and ALSO. The walk and live performances that followed were nothing short of amazing. The event was a testament to what authentic partnerships and outreach look like. A special shout out to Principal Rodríguez and the Lowell Elementary School band, choir and cheerleaders for their spectacular performances. Another special shout out to Gabriel from Lincoln Park High School for volunteering with the distribution of food. Lastly, I’d like to shout out Gonzalo for running the stage and managing performances throughout the evening. This event would not have been possible without everyone’s collective effort and for that, I am grateful.

Your 26th Ward Alderperson,

Jessie Fuentes

When applicable, the person requesting a zoning change may also be required to present their zoning request to the broader public during a community input meeting.
